Finding Home Within: My Path to Becoming My Ideal Self
Share
Have you ever sat in your favorite armchair at home, in the comfort of your room, yet experienced this peculiar feeling of homesickness? It's a weird feeling—the longing to be home when you're already home. For me, it's not a place; it's a part of myself I'm still growing into—a part that would be home.
I'm 20 and struggling to navigate an exciting and terrifying world. I'm discovering that "home" is more than four walls and a roof. It's being at ease, in sync, and honest. It's being comfortable with who I am and who I'm becoming. Being my best self is like fitting a puzzle together, with each piece—my style, haircut, friends, even my dream house—fitting into place to form the complete picture of me.
The Wardrobe of My Dreams
Fashion has always been a form of self-expression for me. I see my ideal self in garments that are an extension of myself. It could be a flowing bohemian dress that dances in the wind or a power suit that commands respect. I would love my closet to be full of garments that speak something about me, each one a tiny reflection of the person I am becoming.
The Hair That Speaks Volumes
Of course, there's my hair—an unlimited realm of possibility. I dream of trying new things, whether it's a bold red to complement the vivacity of my personality or a sleek bob that instantly makes me cosmopolitan and sophisticated. Changing my hair is not just a styling issue; it's an issue of embracing change, reveling in transformation, and becoming a few versions of myself.
Accessorizing My Life
Accessories are details, yet they can be everything. A necklace that will catch the light just so, a ring stack that gently clacks as I walk, or earrings that instantly make me feel put-together—all bring richness to my presentation to the world. All these small things remind me that self-expression doesn't always require volume to be powerful.
The Companionship of Pets
In my homing dream, I envision pets—loyal companions adding more light to life. Maybe it's a rambunctious puppy that energizes the space or a cat that curls next to me as I write. To be near an animal with me is to recall that home is not so much a location; it is warmth, love, and companionship.
The Path of Relationships
As I consider relationships, I wonder where my best self will be. Will I be single, with independence? In a budding relationship? Married, with another, and a life we've created together? There is joy and growth in each of these possibilities. Wherever I land, the most important thing is remaining authentic and choosing relationships that align with my values and intentions.
The Dream House
And then, of course, there's the dream home—a house, not a structure, but a house where I feel at home. Perhaps it's some quaint little cabin in the woods or a trendy apartment in the city. Where it's decorated, how it smells, the small things about it that are mine—it's all part of the life I'm creating, one that is an extension of me and who I'm growing to be.
The Journey Home
As I walk through life, I recall that finding "home" within is not arriving somewhere. It's honoring the process of becoming, step by step, choice by choice. Some days, I am closer to the person I want to be. Some days, I get lost. And that's alright. What's important is that I keep going, searching, and unfolding. So, if you've felt the same homesickness in your comfortable space, don't worry; you're not alone. It simply means you're on the path—a beautiful, life-changing path to becoming your best version. Own it. Have faith in it. And know home isn't where we are; it's something we create within us.
I hope this glimpse into my path resonates with you. I'll tackle the small stuff in upcoming blogs—fashion, hair, relationships, and daily choices that shape us. If you, too, are in the middle of it or simply curious, I'd be blessed if you'd follow along with me as we sort through what it means to be home in our worlds.
